Improving Health for All
We fund research to enhance systems of care in a way that ensures equitable care.
More than
$200 million
in grant distributions to improve systems of care.
We support innovative, applied research that allows health care systems to improve effectiveness, efficiency, quality and equity in the delivery of care.
The Regenstrief Foundation supports the Health Data Standards unit at the Regenstrief Institute (pictured above), actively working to establish the LOINC terminology system as the international standard for identifying health measurements, observations and documents. This effort aims to facilitate seamless data movement across health systems.
Advancing Health Equity Through Standardized Data
Equity in health care directly impacts patient and population health. To meaningfully address health equity, we must understand the root causes and create successful interventions. Although social determinants/drivers of health (SDOH) are central to health disparities, this data is rarely well documented or standardized in electronic health records, hindering the ability to assess SDOH much less measure the results of interventions.
Funding from Regenstrief Foundation supports the Health Data Standards (HDS) unit at Regenstrief Institute in its close collaboration with HL7’s Gravity Project team and MD Partners to close the gaps in SDOH standardization with the goal that the LOINC terminology standard serves as a universal catalog and uniform representation of SDOH data elements. The outcome of this work will help create scalable solutions and processes based on SDOH data to benefit patients, clinicians and researchers.
“I can go anywhere in the world to get health care. I can pay and get the best there is. But these people have no choice. They have to sit here and wait all day. Surely there is something we can do about this!”
